OK – so this is where it all gets weird! My brothers and I grew up with the strains of Shirley Bassey blasting through the house and our Mum stopping mid stroll of the lounge breaking into song – arms extended, full voice then nonchalantly slipping back to her house hold duties. Lots of eyebrow raising and rolling of the eyes by us all, but Shirley was always in our lives. James Bond kept her on the stage with diamonds are forever and Goldfinger but it was when I included her character into my cabaret act and the Propellerheads wrote ‘History Repeating’ for her that she became truly cool. To be that sexy and still on your game in your 70’s says something about the power of music
