HOW MUCH WALLPAPER OR PAINT FOR YOUR HOME?

pic Showroom Designers Guild, London by SB

Knowing how much to use when wallpapering or painting can leave you scratching your head with miscalculations that leave you either rushing to the store to buy more (and hoping they still have the same dye lot) or a shed full of tinted paint you can’t reuse.  Use these simple calculators from Living Etc Magazine to get yourself organised and save yourself the stress.
TIP
Wallpaper  – add extra wallpaper to your calculations for patches and a few mistakes you may make while hanging.
Paint - paint can last at least 8 years if sealed properly (don’t have in the hottest spot of shed or garage) Perfect to have a tin for touch ups or a freshen up without painting the whole room.

Guesthouse that gets it right

Brooks Guesthouse
When you book accomodation online you can sometimes be playing a game of chance but on this occasion it came up a winner! Brooks guesthouse in Bath ticked all the boxes with attentive hospitality, a tasty and filling breakfast but my big tick was the interiors. I love to mix period and modern details when I design, and the interiors of the guest house carry if off with ease. The guesthouse is sympathetic to the original Victorian features and as you make your way around the charm is slowly revealed and produces pure delight.
Sit in the guest lounge by the fireOur room was relaxing in an old fashioned way and finished with lush silk curtainsThe ensuite was small but was fitted with good quality modern fittings and a hot shower was welcomed at the end of the day with the temperature hitting a high of four degrees
The ‘comforting’ cooked breakfast was served on the lower floor. Original parquetry and bluestone floor and complimented with simple modern and aged furniture and cleverly decorated with teapots.A diversion to the powder room revealed a sense of whimsy.
The corridors to the rooms displayed varied lighting and pictures

BOLD AS YOU GO

These large format designs by Eiffinger mean minimal spend on furniture and decoration to give maximum impact. If you are wanting drama and central focus, such as these make sure you keep the rest of the room simple so the features dont ‘fight’ each other

Florence Broadhurst a flambouyant figure in Australian Interior history, was noted for her hand printed wallpapers, over-the-top dressing style and her brutal and mysterious death. Florences’ archive was given a re-birth when her designs were aquired by Signature Prints in Sydney.
